Korean-based Jungmin-Ha and Jiwoo-Lee from Studio Seel have invented an entertaining stainless-steel metaphor for the everyday seating object called the “Thumbtack Stool.”
Studio Seel’s designers playfully suggest for viewers to “have a seat!”

Designed for the 2022 DDP Design Fair and following the exposition’s theme, “Beautiful Life,” the designers have crafted a stool that imitates the look of a thumbtack as a clever, yet tongue-in-cheek comeback toward tacky, ill-mannered people.

The design is a bold and symbolic response to those who behave badly in public, as it creates an illusion of them being stuck on a massive thumbtack’s pin.
Made of stainless-steel at Euljiro’s “Hwangdong Metal,” the stool stands simple, elegant, yet substantial.

The size of the chair’s solid seat is big enough to allow comfort and practicality, while small enough to disappear when someone is sitting, forming this comical and powerful satire of being pinned down on a tack.
Designed as an “amusing piece of furniture for the boring routine,”’ the stool gives a “sense of satisfaction” to the design team when the purpose of the concept is fulfilled, as commented by its creators.
