The project exemplifies a series of environmentally friendly strategies that respond sensitively to the site and context.
First, set within an urban park landscape, the building is conceived as a natural extension of its surroundings.
A planted green roof allows the architecture to integrate seamlessly into the natural setting, an idea established from the outset.

West Garden Florist byLUO studio, won a 2026 Green Good Design Award from The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and European Centre for Architecture, Art, Design, and Urban Studies.
The goal is to let people arriving here feel as if they are approaching a large living plant.
This green roof also provides enhanced thermal performance, as the soil layer acts as effective insulation, helping to reduce energy consumption.
Second, to further improve environmental comfort and structural stability, the building is positioned adjacent to an existing grove.

Through careful observation of the site, the building’s plan was shaped in response to the constraints of the tree trunks.
In this way, the building benefits from natural shading and wind protection while avoiding damage or removal of the existing trees.
Third, a lightweight construction method was adopted to minimize disruption to the site.

As the site is a public green space, bringing in heavy machinery would have caused severe damage to the park’s existing vegetation and pathways, as well as significant environmental disturbance requiring extensive post-construction restoration.
To avoid this, the building components were designed to be small and lightweight enough for workers to carry, process, and assemble manually, minimizing the impact on the environment during construction.
Finally, the building adopts an eco-friendly foundation system.

Instead of concrete or other wet, heavy foundations, it employs ground screw foundations.
This approach protects the soil, and if the building ever needs to be relocated, it also enables a reversible process—the ground screws can be fully unscrewed and removed.
