Intersticis habitats is a renovation project by 05AM Arquitectura of a 1950s home by architect Rafael Masó that employs a minimal design to focus on the interconnectedness of spaces, creating unique atmospheres flooded by natural light.
In a building by Rafael Masó and a throwback to the 1950s, a comprehensive renovation was carried out to accommodate a new way of living.
Access to the house is through an annexed volume placed on ground level directly adjacent to the street.
The volume is a small prism connected to the main floor only through a corridor, leaving a gap between the two outdoor areas.
The plan is characterized by the incision of two open courtyards, one facing south and the other facing north.
These interstitial spaces provide lighting and interesting visual communications between the various spaces of the house.
They are spaces filled with vegetation, providing an area between two rooms, a parenthesis full of possibilities.
It is a house that allows for a multitude of spaces with a certain ambiguity that increases its potential for use and perception.
The new home achieves spaces that are connected and separated at the same time, with unique corners, and a feeling of spaciousness, with permanent natural lighting.
The home’s minimal design highlights the play of the light, the views outside, and the greenery peaking in.
Spaces are fluid, while carefully selective materials demarcate where one starts and begins.
The main living space is a long room with an integrated open kitchen and niches and built-ins that complete the holistic design.
Visual connections between spaces create unique atmospheres with different light based on different times of the day.
The greenery of the courtyard brings the outside in and natural materials make for calm and comforting spaces.
A material palette of soft gray and light wood adds a softness to the design enhancing the comfort of the space.
