Sebastian Herkner’s Bohème lanterns translate the poetry of nature into contemporary outdoor lighting.
Each lantern is defined by dual‑toned straps, handwoven in an intricate, smaller‑scale pattern over a stainless‑steel frame, creating an organically soft silhouette that belies its robust structure.
The straps echo the colorways of the wider Bohème seating collection, so the lanterns can visually harmonize with nearby furniture in outdoor or indoor‑outdoor settings.

Bohème Lanterns by Studio Sebastian Herkner, won a 2025 Good Design Award from The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and European Centre for Architecture, Art, Design, and Urban Studies.
The lanterns come in three sizes—Small, Medium, and Large—and are USB‑rechargeable, making them highly adaptable for patios, terraces, or shaded gardens.
Their finishes—Alabaster/Brook, Bronze/Mariana, and Talc/Mojave—pair subtle, earthy neutrals with cooler, metallic or darker accents, allowing them to blend into both minimalist and lushly layered environments.

As light passes through the woven veil, the lanterns cast circumferential plays of shadow and glow, turning the surrounding space into a softly animated stage.
In designing Bohème, Herkner drew on a sense of connection with nature and the balance between tradition and innovation.
The handwoven straps reference artisanal craft, while the stainless‑steel frame and rechargeable technology speak to modern material sensibility and efficiency.
The result is a family of lanterns that feel intimate and sculptural, yet agile enough to support both quiet, contemplative moments and immersive social gatherings.
