Designer Wyatt Cline, vice president of industrial design, along with his design team at Newell Brands Design, has dug back into the historic archives of the 1930s legendary American appliance manufacturer Sunbeam as inspiration for Newell’s newly released New York Collection of Appliances.
The collection recently earned a 2020 Good Design® Award from The Chicago Athenaeum.
Inspired by the design precedents of the 1930s American designer Ivar Jepson alongside Bernard Alton Graham, Cline and his team produced a new Deco streamlined premium range of kitchen appliances comprised of pot and jug coffee kettles along with a 2-slice and 4-slice toaster.
Cline’s sleek new appliances pay homage to the famous American designs of Sunbeam when that iconic company was at the forefront of the American industry inventing and producing the first mechanical mixers, electric irons, drink mixers, juice extractors, food choppers and slicer shredder.
The new products from Newell Brands feature an illumination function, lighting in both the kettle when boiling and toaster when toasting.
The new collection is underscored by luxurious finishes and three sophisticated color palettes: white and pale gold, black and antique bronze, and silver chrome and gold.
New Zealand customers will be able to purchase the range in black.
The new breakfast range is also inspired by the City of New York as “the city that never sleeps.”
