The AstraZeneca Training Coach designed by Team Consulting and AstraZeneca UK is a sustainably designed “trainer” device, a crucial tool that can be used to improve patient adherence and help healthcare professionals (HCPs) ensure that users can administer treatment correctly.
The AstraZeneca Training Coach offers a novel approach to trainer device design, designed to be more sustainable, easier to use, and more reusable than other trainer devices.
AstraZeneca Training Coach has recently been awarded a 2022 Good Design Award by The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies.
It offers a simple four-step training experience, with clear, easy-to-read instruction labels on each side of the device to help users simulate the use of a real auto-injector.
Made of robust components to ensure reliability, it has a simple mechanism designed to be easily reset for repeated use, allowing an HCP to train multiple patients.
The trainer was built using the minimum possible component parts, saving around 24 parts per device compared to other trainer pens.
This results in a reduction of around 240,000 components per 10,000 devices produced each year, helping to considerably reduce the carbon footprint of the device manufacturer.
