Nagasaki, Japan
Suppose Design Office managed to design a three-room hotel out of an old residence where the present coexists in harmony with the past by removing old finishes and cutting out the openings in an irregular yet sculptural way.
This renovation project was short-listed for a 2021 International Architecture Award from The Chicago Athenaeum and The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies.
An old reinforced concrete structure building got refurbished to create this hotel with only 3 rooms.
A ruined building, like an interior that takes in outside elements, provides a vague boundary between inside and outside spaces.
Nature dominates existing and newly made parts, letting plants and humans coexist and harmonize with each other.
Suppose Design Office team tried to create a contrast between the luxe beauty and the solid interior finishes, the strong and rough expression of the building frame that reflects in the raw concrete finish, as well as natural materials such as rattan and sisal.
