“A design break of almost 70 years at Midgard was a clear challenge. And we were very happy to accept it, considering it a call to finding a radical solution,” states Stefan Diez, head designer of the Diez Office.

“We critically explored all the customary components in standard lamps and defined the possibilities innate in currently available technology with regard to a holistically conceived luminaire,” he explains.
Stefan Diez and Lina Fischer collaborate with Midgard Licht and update its iconic TYP 113, a very popular luminaire during the Bauhaus era, and together create the AYNO lighting family, “testing the boundaries between the origin and status quo of adjustable lighting.”
The AYNO lighting family has been recently awarded the 2022 Prize Designs for Modern Furniture & Lighting Award from Global Design News and The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design.

AYNO’s minimalistic construction enables extremely low resource consumption, as well as following circular principles in the primary use of recycled materials.
Plug connections allow the LED and transformer to be replaced by hand, which significantly extends the lifespan of the lamp.
The central feature of the AYNO lighting family is a fiberglass rod, which is stretched to the bow by the luminaire cable. The inherent tension of the rod allows a lamp without any joints.

By sliding the two adjustment rings at the top and bottom, the fiberglass rod is bent into the desired position and the light is directed where needed.
The cable tightens the rod into an arc, of which the radius can be varied as required using the adjustment rings. The fine adjustment is done with the swiveling lampshade.
Available as a table lamp and two-floor lamp versions, in three lighting colors.
With AYNO, the first design of a new Midgard lamp since the 1950s, the industrial designer Stefan Diez is testing the boundaries between the origin and status quo of adjustable lighting.
The collaboration manifests Midgard’s spirit of the invention, 100 years of lighting history are continued as intended by Curt Fischer.
