Shigeki Matsuoka for KOMA has designed the Cocoda Chair as a hand-made and one-of-a-kind piece that shows that such a sensitive design cannot be made by a machine.
The Cocoda Chair is characterized by its intricate three-dimensional curved arms, which are made by carving solid wood.
This shape cannot be made by bending the wood.
A simple chair with only the necessary functions is the most comfortable and most beautiful.
The beautiful organic form of this product attracts users to touch it.
Each piece is hand-carved out of solid wood using Japanese hand tools.
The Cocoda Chair was awarded a 2021 Good Design Award by The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies.
In today’s increasingly mechanized world, most furniture is made by automated machines.
However, complex cubic curves that fit the human body best cannot be made by machine.
The fact that this chair, which is made by hand with the quality of a one-of-a-kind piece, can be mass-produced is a new value that cannot be found anywhere else.
The high level of Japanese craftsmanship also makes it sustainable.
It is said that the world of manufacturing will become more difficult in the future due to the development of AI, but people have nothing to fear as long as they have the power and individuality to give life to new creations at all times.
The ability to change the future of manufacturing into something brilliant will be useful to society.
