Mario Mazzer and Giovanni Crosera of Mario Mazzer Architects have redefined the simple task of opening a door with a new functional design for Manital—the NoHand Door Handle.
The door lever won a recent 2020 Good Design® Award from The Chicago Athenaeum.
Designed in the difficult period between March and April 2020, during the lockdown, the handle offers a solution to help deal with similar emergencies in the short and long term.
NoHand, therefore it became reality in no time, is a patented model intended to improve safety thanks to an unprecedented gesture: now elbow and forearm are the body parts delegated to the opening and closing function of the door, thus protecting hands from contamination by Viruses and bacteria.
A small change in habits that can bring an important benefit for the community, especially in those high-frequent public places, where continuous sanitation becomes difficult if not impossible.
As the president of the company, Luigi Bigoloni explains: “The emergence we are experiencing will have repercussions about our way of living and behave not only in the present but also in the future. Similar situations could, unfortunately, repeat themselves and for this reason, we hope to make a useful contribution with this new handle. We are satisfied with having received this recognition that shows us the international estimate for our work.”
The design of the handle focuses on functionality and ergonomics: its essential and modern shape is given by a cylindrical that rises high to facilitate opening with the elbow and forearm.
Made of 304 stainless steel, NoHand is proposed in different finishes: satin, glossy, in white and black colors made of epoxy paint.
NoHand is also available upon request in an antibacterial copper version.
