“We chose to collaborate with the Formafantasma, for their poetic aesthetic, their work on balance and form, their practice encompassing a wide range of activities and methods” — Maison Matisse.
Andrea Trimarchi and Simone Farresin from Formafantasma have designed a new limited edition of lighting for Maison Matisse inspired by Henri Matisse’s late 1940s cut-outs.
The designers use a ruler and a blade to shape the silhouettes of chandeliers, table lamps, candleholders, and pendant lights.
Named “The Fold,” the lighting collection by Formafantasma interprets this modern art heritage and marks Maison Matisse’s first foray into lighting design.
Both designers have created a series of abstract compositions that subtly reference the artist’s creative style while maintaining Formafantasma’s unique, sophisticated approach.
Made of machine-cut and bent steel, spray-painted to a smooth finish in shades from moss green to deep red, pink and blue (each piece is available in the four colors), the lamps feature contrasting white paper shades.
The legacy of a leader of the avant-garde of the twentieth century meets here the imagination of the contemporary avant-garde and offers unique pieces, symbols of the requirement and optimism that characterized the work of the painter.
