Köln, Germany and Nijkerk, The Netherlands
Designed by Frank Blase of German motion plastics company igus and Johannes Alderse Baas of Dutch startup MTRL, igus:bike is a maintenance-free, sustainable solution to urban mobility with a unique, eye-catching design.
igus presents a world first: A robust and durable bicycle that consists of more than 90 % plastic – from the frame to the bearings to the toothed belt.
A high proportion of the raw materials required can be covered by recycling plastic waste.
For its unique and sustainable design, igus:bike has recently been awarded a 2022 Good Design Award by The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies.
ibus:bike is made almost entirely of plastic, is robust, requires no lubricants, and is guaranteed rust-free.
The design is one-of-a-kind: low maintenance, stainless, sustainable, durable, stress-free, and unique.
The designers would like to empower the bike industry to produce sustainable, maintenance-free, and durable bicycles through the use of recyclable materials.
Thanks to the self-lubricating properties of the bearings, nothing has to be lubricated or greased.
Nothing is made of metal, so they won’t rust, and without oil and grease, they are better for the environment (as well as for clothing and hands).
No maintenance. Just ride. That’s all you have to do.
Be one of the first pioneers of new Urban Mobility.
You are guaranteed to stand out, whether you want to or not.
