The project examines the spatial organization of a contemporary broadcast and media center, rethinking how operational complexity can be balanced with architectural clarity.
Designed at a clear height of approximately 7 meters, the building is primarily organized as a two-storey structure, while selectively introducing double-height volumes to emphasize transparency, visibility, and spatial hierarchy.
D1 Media Center by BAB Architects, won an “Europe 40 Under 40” Award from The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and European Centre for Architecture, Art, Design, and Urban Studies.
At ground level, a centrally positioned lobby and information desk from the main organizing spine of the building, providing clear orientation and separating public and production-related functions.

Directly behind the entrance, an open newsroom establishes visual and functional continuity between two broadcast studios, reinforcing collaboration and real-time interaction.
Supporting spaces—including backstage areas, dressing rooms, hair and make-up stations, technical rooms, and BOH facilities—are carefully integrated to ensure seamless daily operation without interrupting the primary spatial flow.
The main news studio occupies a double-height volume, reinforcing its role as the core of live broadcasting.
A secondary studio dedicated to visual breaking-news updates is conceived as a compact and flexible environment, with mobile lecterns and screens that allow rapid reconfiguration and alternative camera perspectives, including visual connections back to the newsroom.

The upper level houses the Broadcast Operations Center (BOC), bringing together PCR, MCR, monitoring spaces, server rooms, and IT workstations within a single coordinated control hub.
A direct vertical connection between the control center and studios ensures efficient communication and operational precision.
Along the mezzanine balcony—visible from the entrance—a shared meeting lounge, recreational areas, and a social media workspace contribute to a more open and inclusive working environment.
A defining feature of the project is the placement of the CEO’s office on an intermediate level, positioned between the ground and upper floors. This strategic location provides spatial distinction and privacy while maintaining a visual and organizational connection to the building as a whole.

Enhanced ceiling height and the potential introduction of natural light further elevate the quality of the executive space.
Architecturally, the project emphasizes transparency not only as a visual gesture but as a spatial strategy.
Visual connections between departments, exposed circulation routes, and shared social spaces support information flow, collaboration, and spatial equity within a high-pressure working environment.
Rather than isolating functions, the spatial system encourages awareness and interaction while preserving the operational discipline required by broadcast production.

Beyond functional performance, the building is conceived as an adaptive framework for evolving media practices.
As broadcast production increasingly overlaps with digital platforms and real-time content creation, the spatial system allows flexibility without compromising operational clarity.
Architecture here acts as a mediator between people, technology, and organizational structure, translating complex workflows into a legible and human-centered working environment.
