Thessaloniki, Greece
Commissioned by the Faiss Group and designed by Rena Sakellaridou and Morpho Papanikolaou from the architectural firm Sparch, the Modiano Market in Thessaloniki has relaunched after an impressive makeover earlier this year.

The Modiano Market building is a historical landmark of the city, directly intertwined with the history of Jews of Thessaloniki, and was originally built by Eli Modiano in 1925.
The architects have decided to keep many of the original materials in order to preserve the site’s heritage.

Metal frames and railings, curving marble staircases, and the steel in the roof that was brought in from Belgium last century, have been showcased.
All other elements that needed to be changed have been replaced with materials that are compatible with the building’s character, original architecture, and history.
Featuring 117 stores and food stalls, among which there are delicatessens, certified organic, and traditional products from various countries of the world, but also ready-to-eat delicacies, street food, coffee, cocktails, and much more.
