Nanchang City, Jiangxi Province, China
Shanghai PTArchitects’ Vida Loca Boutique Hotel Annan, designed for Greenland Group, is a unique, “tree-house” like hotel structure composed of natural and man-made environments that reflects the living styles of people, history, culture, and environmental features of Jiangxi Province, China.
Due to its unique structure, Vida Loca Boutique Hotel Annan has recently been awarded a 2022 International Architecture Award by The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies.
Combined with the red-soil geological park, the design maximized the existing site conditions and natural landscape resources.
The project was master planned based on the existing topography and forests surrounding the site.
The building volumes were grouped together in different heights and directions, so each unit boasts a scenic view.
Meanwhile, the buildings, which were built near water, seem to dynamically grow from the site and integrate into nature.
The architectural forms and spaces were deepened based on site conditions.
The volumes were combined in different heights and directions to ensure that each functional area provides a view of the outdoor landscape.
The “tree-house” buildings were made of aluminum plates with wood-like textures, steel structures, and glass.
The supporting core tube, the stilted floor, and the high cantilever structure create a sense of lightness in the architecture.
The glazed façades on all sides bring the surrounding three-dimensional landscapes into the interior, hence achieving the interaction among people, architecture, and the environment.
Architecture provides people with a physical place for living and activities. Aside from meeting the functional needs of users, it can also please them physically and psychologically.
