Alcácer do Sal, Portugal
The Portuguese firm OODA partnered with MassLab and P4 for an ambitious project for Barrosinha Agricultural Company that spans approximately 2,000 hectares in Alcácer do Sal, Portugal.
The aim of the project is to transform Herdade da Barrosinha into a new identity that is in harmony with the local agro-forestry heritage.
The master plan proposes segmenting the property into nine Operational Management Units (UOPG) structured in concentric rings, with a scheme for tourist occupation, housing, commerce, and leisure.
With an avant-garde vision, this urban project aspires to create a significant impact, not just locally but also on a national scale, promoting Barrosinha as a cultural epicenter and a model for sustainable development and innovation.
The architects propose challenging the traditional development paradigm by promoting advancement while preserving the landscape’s integrity and existing ecosystem health.
Therefore the project’s intention is to transcend mere construction and to adopt an ethos of coexistence, following the principle of “building without devastating.”
At the center of this endeavor is a deep commitment to nature, translated into a meticulous study that balances human presence with absolute respect for the environment.
The land analysis took into account both technical assessments and emotional evaluations of the place’s memory.
The proposal introduces a system that balances ecological preservation with community engagement, creating green corridors for biodiversity and leisure.
