Michele De Lucchi presented a couple of days before his artworks, drawings, and sculptures, named Legni Cuciti which means “sawn woods”, in the Galleria Antonia Jannone, in Milan. The exhibition consists of ten sculptures and fifteen compositions of drawings that refer to wood processing and design.
The architect/artist creates unconventional compositions of irregular pieces of wood sawn together with iron wire. Inspired by the Inuits and the sawing of the wooden parts of their traditional canoes, De Lucchi creates artworks that celebrate imperfection and the value of craftsmanship.
“sewing wood seems like a counterintuitive idea. convention dictates that this material be glued, interlocked, and inlaid through a mechanical process to obtain perfectly matching surfaces. my new technique requires no geometric perfection. I can instead tightly connect differently shaped parts, with no clear point of contact, and create a harmonious and solid composition”, he claims.
You can visit the “Legni Cuciti” exhibition at the Antonia Jannone Gallery until February 12, 2022.
