“Locked down in NYC made me fantasize about building myself a futuristic yet economical house in the country with 360-degree views and this is the result,” comments Karim Rashid.

Designed by American Prize for Design laureate Karim Rashid, the Disk House is the designer’s dream house, a singular column structure, transparent and flooded with light that looks like a secluded fairy tale country house, created for anyone who desires to live in the countryside.
The Disk House recently won the Best Dream House of the Year Award at the 2022 Future House Awards from Global Design News and The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design.
The central column not only creates the overall support but also runs all electrical, heating, ventilation and air conditioning, plumbing, and technology, while privately housing the bathroom downstairs.

“Being locked down for so many months now, made me realize how important the connection with the exterior is – and how much a glazed surface can do for you. Transparency is immaterial; hence your space always feels much larger and it creates a positive mental psyche,” says Rashid.
Completely glazed, both the architecture and interior design flow freely in this curved home.
Outside, a circular pool delineates the house, adding to the freshness of it all.
Complete with two bedrooms and two and a half bathrooms, the home expands over 200 square meters and has two floors.

“The expensive version of this house would have PolyVision glass to go opaque with a flick of a switch,” concludes Rashid.
“But maybe no need since it would be surrounded by woods and I could wake up every morning to the sunrise.”
