Madrid, Spain
Juan Herreros from Estudio Herreros has designed a new multi-family project in the quiet Peñagrande residential area in the north of Madrid

Zanzíbar Cube is comprised of a community of eight duplexes stacked on two levels.
While the four lower houses enjoy private gardens, each of the upper houses has its own garden roof.
In addition, they all share common spaces such as a children’s play area, a swimming pool and a garage.

Regarding the distribution, the domestic program is organized by levels, distinguishing between day and night areas.
The elevator stops only on public floors.
The aim of this organization is to provide the apartments with privacy and transform them into small single-family houses equipped with outdoor areas for living, dining and barbecue, connected to the interior through large windows.
For their part, the upper floors extend your living room vertically through a comfortable staircase-skylight that leads to a landscaped roof terrace that is a true privilege in this area of Madrid.
From the outside, the complex presents a resounding volume with an enclosure of opaque aluminum panels and stamped lattices, which contrast with the lightness of the pergolas and vegetation.
In addition, a set of cantilevered terraces, clad in wood and of generous proportions, extend the interior spaces outwards.
