Jonas Stokke and Øystein Austad of Flokk AS have designed the HÅG Tion Task Chair for HÅG AS as an attempt to bring personal customization into a very accessible office chair, all the while with sustainability at its core.

For its sustainable design, HÅG Tion Task Chair has recently been awarded a 2022 Green GOOD DESIGN Sustainability Award by The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies.
The chair aims to cater to our shifting office culture, one that has fully adapted and embraced remote work.
No matter what setting we find ourselves working in now, we should be able to customize our chairs to fit our unique personalities and settings.
At the same time, it has always been HÅG’s mission to provide innovative active seating solutions that put the physical health of the sitter in mind.

The Tion Task Chair thus includes a tilt mechanism underneath with a height-adjustable seat, along with an open pan seating that allows for a very adaptable sitting experience.
The adaptability of the HÅG Tion excels both in its ergonomic simplicity as well as in the choices and color combinations available: This is where the Tion shines.
The designers have consciously chosen and partnered with brands that provide sustainably sourced solutions for textile options, all selected to meet EU Ecolabel criteria, with an emphasis on wool and post-consumer recycled polyester.
The designers also invested in the development of recycled plastics, creating a variety of color options that is consistent for production, which was previously limited to black.

All of the plastics used in the chair are made from 94% recycled color-sorted post-consumer plastics.
The aluminum used in each chair also contains 97-98% recycled metal.
A very conscious effort was placed in the design of the chair to include zero glue, while each part was made to easily be able to assemble and disassemble into individual material components for recycling.
For this reason, parts can also be easily replaced, maximizing the chair’s lifespan.

Upholstery includes no staples, tacks, or glue, and the covers can be easily replaced or swapped based on personal preference.
The chair can be fully customized to one’s desire without compromising on sustainability.
With this chair, the designers establish the possibility of transferring trash into high-quality products.
They prove that it can be done on a scale with a wide range of options and benchmarks, such as recycling 1,500 tonnes of recycled plastics into their products by 2025 and eventually extending recycled materials into their entire portfolio.
HÅG Tion sets an example in sustainable design, showing that an office chair can be accessible to anyone no matter what context they work in.
