For the first time, we can take a take a deeper look at the impact our rider community are having on the world.
E-bikes have now taken pole position in a worldwide mass mobility revolution.
The trend of millions of people switching to more sustainable transport is shown in the rapidly growing VanMoof community, increasing by 30% to over 155,000 riders.
And the pace of this e-bike transition has already changed cities radically.
City dwellers worldwide are embracing e-bikes as a safe and reliable mobility option.
This year alone, VanMoof riders have travelled almost 12 million kilometers – that’s 300 times around the world, or 15 times to the moon and back. Most impressive of all are the carbon impacts, saving over 1346 tons of CO2 from being released.
And this is just the beginning, with all related trends pointing to cleaner, greener, and smarter cities.
The latest release of new e-bikes by VanMoof include the S3 and X3.
Both models — which are practically the same, save for the frame shape and wheel size — are visually similar to their second-gen predecessors. They have familiar features, too, such as integrated frame lights and a special kick lock.
VanMoof’s S3 e-bike is better, cheaper, and just as stylish VanMoof is like the Allbirds of e-bikes.
The S3 is available in black (Dark) and a brand-new seafoam blue (Light) color. Both colorways use the alternate shade for an angled strip on the top tube that lists the new model number. It’s a small design element, but one that separates the bike from its already-stylish predecessor.
The cruiser-style handlebars bend toward you, encouraging a more relaxed and upright riding style. They’re slim and utterly gorgeous, with matching grips, brake levers and VanMoof-branded oil reservoir compartments.
The frame itself is a classic diamond (or double-triangle, depending on your perspective) design with a straight top tube and slightly angled seat post.
Although they differ in size, with the S3 being designed for larger riders, while the X3 is for shorter riders, they pack plenty of power, since the motor has been upgraded to be more powerful and more silent, being able to reach top speeds of 32 kph (20 mph).
The European versions are electronically limited to be slower, due to EU regulations.
Both models come with 4-speed automatic transmission using electronic shifting, Turbo Boost mode, integrated lighting, hydraulic braking system, and the kick lock from previous-gen models, which locks the rear wheel with a single touch of the toe and activates the on-board anti-theft tech.
The bikes come with smart connectivity and riders can customize everything from shift points to bell ring on their phone, via a dedicated app. Smart connectivity also offers GPS tracking, rider recognition remote lockdown and the possibility to report the bike as stolen.
Estimated range is of 60-150 km (37-93 miles), and varies according to the level of pedal-assist, weight of the rider and other factors like weather and terrain.
“We couldn’t be more proud to see our riders making such a positive impact on their environment and communities. As e-biking becomes the most relevant way of commuting, cities around the world are transforming before our eyes and reimagining their infrastructure to promote cycling,” said Taco Carlier, co-founder VanMoof.
