Bodrum, Turkey
Scorpios Bodrum, designed by Ali Çalışkan and GEOMIM is a boutique resort situated on Turkey’s Aegean coast, featuring twelve island villas, a village square, sports cabanas, beach decks, retail areas, a ritual pavilion, and dining facilities.
The development is settled on a 75-thousand square meter peninsula resembling a small Aegean village with its scale and amenities.
The master plan includes eleven individual island villas and resort features such as a village square, reception, cabanas for sport and leisure treatments, beach decks, retail areas, and f&b facilities.
The project sits on the footprints of the previous villa settlements preserving nature as much as possible.
For this project, GEOMIM has been awarded with a Europe40Under40 Architecture and Design Award by The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies.
Taking inspiration from Aegean old towns and their relation to land and nature, 80 centimeters-thick masonry stone walls are the constituent architectural element used throughout the project.
The level of craftsmanship, selecting and collecting the stones from the site seeks to praise “genius loci.”
The island villas are also simple yet modern interpretations of the traditional Bodrum houses, with cube-shaped exterior walls exploding on every side, providing spacious interiors and ensuring complete privacy from their surroundings simultaneously.
This commitment to environmental stewardship has positioned Scorpios Bodrum as a candidate for LEED Platinum certification.
