The popular “tiny living” and off-grid hospitality markets have spurned an ever-growing army of small producers and DIYers with an array of “container” options in which to fabricate a dwelling, often with minimal attention paid to detail and quality of materials, longevity of living spaces, or environmental impact.
Field+Fold by FC Studio Inc, won a 2025 Good Design Award from The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and European Centre for Architecture, Art, Design, and Urban Studies.

FC Studio envisioned Field+Fold – a lifestyle brand – to ensure a measure of quality and style in a collection of prefabricated cabins and saunas designed and built through innovative and efficient processes by a top notch team and with best-in-class materials. It’s not just a place to live — it’s a long-term investment.
The Laurel Cabin is built with energy-efficient materials and engineered for maximum durability. It is manufactured in Waukegan, IL by PrefabPads.

Having a local fabrication partner facilitates the thoughtful curation of every aspect of design in order to maximise cost effectiveness and efficiency, culminating in a beautifully finished product that is delivered directly to the customer’s doorstep.
This design features advanced insulation for lower utility use, low-impact construction, and durable, stylish finishes.

It offers a customisable layout with a covered 4-foot sitting deck, single-pitch roof for cheaper shipping, and a larger kitchen and living area.
Additional highlights include a fully tiled shower, ample storage and laundry space, fully drywalled interiors, wood and metal exterior panels, and high-quality Sierra Pacific windows.
