The H Eye Planter by Hyundai Engineering & Construction (Hyundai E&C) is a unique landscaping structure made using advanced 3D printing technology that aims to encourage expanding one’s knowledge through books.
This planter, located at the Hillstate Yongin Dunjeon Station, symbolizes an “eye,” which is intended to represent a broader view of the world, especially in the context of its placement near a library.
The project is recognized with the prestigious 2024 Green Good Design Awardin the Green Product category by The Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design and The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies.
The combination of 3D printing technology and concrete has created new structures. Most concrete uses formwork.
But when combined with 3D printing technology, we don’t have to use formwork.
This can significantly reduce the amount of construction waste. It’s not all about these environmental benefits.
There’s also a variety of messages that can be delivered by design.
This planter in front of the library embodies the “eye” in hopes of seeing the world and expanding knowledge through books. Our wishes are expressed not only in form but also in material.
The designers wanted to express creativity, and as a result, they combined 3D printing technology with concrete to create a new planter.
In terms of design, the hardness of the concrete and the softness of the curve contrast, but they put it in one piece.
Those who look at it will have a complex feeling. It comes to the same experience that we feel when we look at a work of art.
