Designed by Europe 40 under 40 laureate Benjamin Van den Bulcke of BVA / ATP Architectes, the extension for the new City Hall in Pechbonnieu is located along the main road of the village and is built in a way to face the whole city.
Benjamin Van den Bulcke was recently awarded a 2020 European 40 Under 40 Award from The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies and The Chicago Athenaeum.
Designed with landscape Architect Jérôme Classe, the extension of the new building occupies the limits of the site and recreates the facade on the street; the town hall reigns over the square.
The bottom of the plot is occupied by a public garden overlooking the new quarter.
A succession of quality spaces between the new hall and the square is set up: the garden, the entrance cover, and the square.
The square is the space for welcoming and meeting in a medium with the street; it will distinguish the town hall program elements and the community of communes.
A gallery serves the offices on the ground floor, which has ends on accessible terraces, views on the garden and the surrounding area, as well as relations with the square and the church bell tower.
The whole space is punctuated by natural light.
