Six Fours Les Plages, France
Designed by Europe 40 Under 40 laureate Bastien Beguier of Baíto Architectes and Lacaille Lassus Architectes Associés, the Stadium Sastre results from a sensible analysis of its immediate environment: a city outskirt landscape, like an absence of architectural nuances and a subtle comprehension of the building’s social importance: gathering, sports, and entertainment.
Bastien Beguier was recently awarded a 2020 Europe 40 Under 40® Award from The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies and The Chicago Athenaeum.
The building fulfills its primary function: see, watch, and protect. It also represents public equipment with a distinctive role of centrality, gathering of the community.
The surroundings’ roughness dissolves into a sense of intimacy; the grandstand forms a protective element thanks to a resistant and solid foundation. Nonetheless, it also allows visitors to enjoy an open and direct view of the field and the ongoing game, cutting out parasitic views.
The choice of materials participates in the project’s fitting in its surroundings and answers sustainability, performance, and longevity issues.
The stadium grandstand reveals a strong identity and testifies the city’s intention: contemporary architecture can be the vector of urban renewal and community togetherness.
