Shenzhen, China
Aedas joins forces with Shenzhen Capol International & Associates Group to design a sports and culture center in Shenzhen, the most rapidly “urbanized” city in China, on behalf of Shenzhen Futian Bureau of Culture.

In the limited space of the site, the architects use the strategy of “vertical stacking” to create a brand new sports center, a new type of “Vertical Sports-Culture Mix”.
The project has been awarded a 2021 International Architecture Award by The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies.

Meanwhile, a series of public spaces are inserted vertically within the building boundary to encourage social activities.
Along the sunken plaza and the second-floor footbridge along Meilin Road, it will receive the main flow of people in the city.
Above the sunken square, there are a flexible and multifunctional hall and music interactive space.
It can hold outdoor music festivals or become the starting point for the vertical marathon.

The building is supported by 6 mega trusses.
Various amenities are hung from the structure, and the 45x75m main stadia in the lower level will be column-free for various sports and culture events of Shenzhen.

Futian International Sports and Culture Exchange Center will meet the needs of citizens of all ages and provide a variety of indoor and outdoor spaces.
