Yangzhou, China
Commissioned by Yangzhou Aoguang Real Estate, Zhiguo Chen and the team of architect team of Woods Bagot have designed The Jinghang Bay, which comprises a hotel, office, retail, residential and other facilities near the grand canal of Yangzhou.

The Jinghang Bay is part of the greater masterplan strategy that aims to maximize the waterfront landscape.
The Jinghang Bay project sited alongside the Yangzhou Grand – Canal with a site area of 15.9 hectare, GFA 400,000 sqm.
The new development reinforces the Group’s strategic layout in the Yangtze River Delta and creates a new riverside landmark for Yangzhou.
The Jinghang Bay has recently been awarded a 2022 International Architecture Awards Honorable Mention by The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies.
Towers are set at both ends of the waterfront to offer superior views.
The commercial street connects the indoor and outdoor retail nodes to activate the site, while residential buildings located on the southeast corner of the site are close to the retail nodes.
The design team also coordinates with traffic consultants to ensure project accessibility.
Studying the history and culture of Yangzhou, the design concept was abstracted from the “Thousands Sails Competition.”

The 200-meter tall tower is the most eye-catching component of the development along the canal.
Its podium will include retail functions, the middle levels will be offices, and the high levels will host a prestige hotel.
Different functions in the building result in transforming the silhouette of the tall tower.
The design of other residential towers also shares the same design concept to create the iconic skyline along the canal.
Retail is not only a shopping space for surroundings but also a public space to serve the community.
The design of the retail component represents the cultural heritage of Yangzhou, the name of the retail center is “Ten Miles of Spring Breeze”, which is from a poem of the Song Dynasty.
The block-layout retail center includes an entry and a central plaza, with a total of four levels.
A retail street named “Baige Bay” connects the whole site along the waterscape.
Bars and restaurants are set near the water to provide a unique dining experience, while a sky curtain is installed with sophisticated lighting design to activate the 24-hour waterfront vitality.
