The Ice World of Tiantai Mountains is an ice and snow theme park, created by the Group of Architects (GOA) and Beijing Victory Star Architectural & Civil Engineering Design for the Zhejiang Snow Lotus Resorts, whose design organically integrates with the natural mountains, realizing the harmony and unity of architecture and nature.
Ice Worlds Tiantai has recently been awarded a 2022 International Architecture Awards Honorable Mention by The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies.
The building makes full use of the height difference, conforms to the mountain, and uses the natural slope of the site to arrange the snow track, reducing excavation and saving costs.
Its façade design is inspired by the snow lotus – the artistic conception of “seeing the lotus purely, you should know not to stain your heart” is integrated with the Buddhist cultural background of the rooftop.
The white perforated aluminum plate and the solid aluminum plate are spliced to form a geometric folding surface, which abstractly extracts the petal shape of the “lotus,” presenting different light and dark shadows in the light at different times of the day.
The building area of the indoor ski resort is 15,430㎡, and the main three functional requirements are: service area, skiing area, and snow entertainment area:
the cold area has a total of one floor, with a construction area of 11,430㎡, except for the basic ski resort and ice and snow entertainment facilities.
There are also children’s play areas, landscape areas, performance areas, etc.
The warm zone has 2 floors, with a construction area of 4000㎡. The function of the first floor is service and office, and the main function of the second floor is catering and entertainment.
The ground view glass window is designed, and there is a leisure teahouse overlooking the beautiful scenery of the cold area ski area and the entertainment snow area.
