Designed in California by Yves Béhar and made in Italy by Safilo for the organization The Ocean Cleanup (TOC), this is probably the most stylish way you can help rid the oceans of plastic.
And, should the time come, they’ve been designed to be easily recycled.
For its eco-friendly and sustainable design, the sunglasses were recently awarded with a 2021 Green Good Design® Award from The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies and The Chicago Athenaeum.
The Ocean Cleanup is a non-profit organization developing advanced technologies to rid the oceans of plastic.
To achieve this objective, they work on a combination of closing the source and cleaning up what has already accumulated in the ocean and doesn’t go away by itself. This goal means they plan to put themselves out of business – once they have completed this project, their work is done.
The sunglasses are made from plastic they removed from the Great Pacific Garbage Patch during our operations in 2019.
100% of the proceeds from the sales of these sunglasses will go directly to continued cleanup operations.
When the organization returns to the patch, because of your support, they estimate that they can clean an area equivalent to 24 football fields of the Great Pacific Garbage Patch from the proceeds of just one pair of sunglasses.
If they sell every pair, that means we could clean half a million football fields worth of ocean.
