Villa di Serio (BG), Italy
Designed by Enzo Catellani, the Ensō lamp is based on the Japanese ensō, which is a hand-drawn circle that symbolizes oneness, enlightenment, and the beauty of imperfection.
Enzo Catellani’s time in Japan, studying traditional calligraphy, deeply influenced the Ensō lamp’s design.
The lamp embodies the ensō circle, capturing the essence of a brushstroke in three-dimensional form.

The Ensō Lamp by Catellani & Smith received the 2024 Good Design Award from the Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and The European Centre for Architecture, Design, and Urban Studies, recognizing its exceptional integration of artistic vision, craftsmanship, and technological innovation.
The Ensō lamp is available in table and wall-mounted versions, each serving as a functional art piece that brings a sense of tranquility and elegance to any space.
The structure, characterized by the unmistakable irregular surface, made with an exclusive Catellani & Smith’s technique, is hand-painted in blue and rests on a brass base.
On the back, eleven LED sources, emit a diffused light towards a wall.

Ensō is a sculptural lamp capable of defining a space even when turned off.
Ensō is designed and manufactured to last over time thanks to the use of high-quality materials and to the replaceability of each component of the lamp.
By using high-efficiency LED sources (lm/W), Ensō minimizes consumption while guaranteeing a nominal output of 1750 lumens with a power of 17 W and a high color rendering index (CRI>90).
The lamp is based on a patented wireless electrical connection and distribution system designed, engineered, and manufactured by Catellani & Smith.
