Jonathan Barnes Architecture and Design (JBAD) restores the Jorgensen Farms, a historic, 100-acre working organic farm and event venue located in Plain Township in Central Ohio and designs a Ceremony Building and Bridal Suites as an assembly of buildings linked through a processional path.
These structures are linked by a processional walkway that weaves through outdoor spaces, creating a cohesive flow from pre-ceremony to post-reception areas.
For its thoughtful design, the project has been awarded a 2024 American Architecture Award by The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies.
This experience engages the natural environment between the venues, including the flower garden and the planting fields, in order to emphasize a sense of place and the immediacy and primacy of the agriculture.
The farm serves as a model for sustainability, using much of its produce and flowers in on-site events while recycling waste to create a closed-loop system.
Additionally, it supplies produce to local restaurants and food kitchens, further emphasizing its commitment to eco-friendly practices.
The farm itself produces much of the food and flowers for the events on site and recycles much of the waste, creating a sustainable, semi-closed circle of production and consumption.
