Los Angeles, California, USA
Located in the Lincoln Heights neighborhood of Los Angeles, the Barranca, designed by Tighe Architecture and landscape architects Orange Street Studio, is a mixed-use project located in the heart of a newly developing community, consisting of 100 Residential units, a 100 Guest Room Hotel, and ground-floor commercial and retail spaces along the street.

For its conceptual design, the Barranca project has received a 2023 American Architecture Award from The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and The European Centre for Architecture, Design, and Urban Studies.
The 210,000-square-foot building is situated within the City of Los Angeles’ newly adopted Cornfield Arroyo Specific Plan.
The CASP zone consists of 660 acres of land that surrounds the Los Angeles State Historic Park and major transportation arteries including the Metro Gold Line and 5 and 110 Freeways.
The new zoning promotes an innovative approach to incentivize housing.
The new walkable community will have less dependence on the automobile and more access to public transportation.

The building design features a classical staple “the arch” now reintroduced as a fresh new vision for an emerging neighborhood.
An arcade of eccentric arches comprises the base of the building and enhances the pedestrian experience along Barranca and San Fernando Road.
The dense building utilizes prefabricated construction methods to aid in schedule and construction costs.
A courtyard serves as an outdoor, open, shared space from which all of the hotel guest rooms are accessed.
Ample outdoor terraces are provided including a generous pool deck that overlooks the DTLA skyline.
A swimmer’s pool, spa, gym, recreation rooms, gardens, and other shared spaces are offered as amenities for the residents.
