Tignes, France
APEX 2100 in Tignes, designed for the SCI Alpine Excellence by SG Architecte and Itinéraires d’Architecture, is a top-notch hotel establishment and a high-altitude training center for upcoming young athletes as well as high-level athletes who want to prepare themselves for any sort of sport competition.

APEX 2100 has recently been awarded a 2022 International Architecture Awards Honorable Mention by The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies.
The architects have created a structure able to train young athletes with classrooms, a library, and multiple seminar areas.
To meet the high-performance labels, the building is at the cutting edge of technology in terms of thermal comfort, acoustics, and lighting, all chosen according to environmental criteria.

As SG Architecte states “this iconic architecture integrates the equipment in a dense and strong stone base, and the accommodation rooms in a light and dancing volume, made of wood and glass, taking advantage of the multiple orientations and a maximum of sunshine.”
The building matches the heterogeneous surrounding scales and is perceived differently according to the points of view.

It fits into the slope of the terrain, which it takes advantage of to embed part of its program and soften the presence of this giant in the city.
The inverted slopes of its roof also contribute to giving it a different reading from the lake, the road, or the center of the town.
