Val d’Isère, France
Located at the entrance to the Fornet sector of Val d’ Isère, at the top of the Chemin de la Bayettaz, Chalet Orso and Orca created by SG Architecte and Atelier Laure Bauer is an impressive and luxurious chalet surrounded by pine trees and with incredible panoramic views of the surrounding mountains.

Chalets Orso & Orca has recently been awarded a 2022 International Architecture Awards Honorable Mention by The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies.
During the design process, the architects faced numerous challenges but the main one was to blend into the setting, a medium-density hamlet composed of old houses.
To the southwest, the extension is composed of two volumes aligned with the neighboring chalet.
To the east, the access to the existing chalet is redistributed on the south façade.
In the existing construction and the extension, the lower volume incorporates access to the chalets and covered parking spaces.

The upper volume houses bedrooms and a large living space with exceptionally vast windows which provides a unique view of the surrounding environment.
The interior is stylish and inviting, blending traditional materials with contemporary furnishings made from a combination of ancient wood and stone by local craftsmen.
The main living areas both offer sumptuous sofas, open glass-fronted fireplaces, and the most spectacular views from the huge picture windows.
The large terrace can be accessed from the main living areas.
On the terrace, at Chalet Orso, one can find a Norwegian Bath, where one can relax after a day on the mountain looking over the old Fornet Village.
