Designed from a single sheet of aluminum, Picnik is a striking example of how innovative engineering and thoughtful design can transform an everyday object into a timeless design icon.
Created for Extremis by Dirk Wynants in collaboration with Xavier Lust, Picnik combines functionality, sustainability, and sculptural beauty in one seamless form.
The concept originated when Dirk Wynants challenged himself to create a picnic table from a standard 1.5 m × 1.5 m aluminum sheet while generating as little waste as possible.

Through a series of carefully calculated cuts and bends, the material is transformed into a remarkably strong and comfortable picnic table.
To perfect the design, Wynants partnered with Xavier Lust, renowned for his expertise in aluminum bending techniques.
The table’s distinctive curves are more than an aesthetic feature. They provide exceptional structural strength, ergonomic seating comfort, and natural water drainage, making Picnik suitable for outdoor use in all weather conditions.

Its powder-coated aluminum construction ensures durability, low maintenance, and complete recyclability.
Picnik’s minimalist appearance allows it to blend effortlessly into parks, terraces, public spaces, and indoor environments, while its sculptural form gives it the presence of a functional work of art.

The design can also be stacked efficiently for transport and storage, further reinforcing its sustainable and practical character.
A true embodiment of the principle “form follows function,” Picnik demonstrates how simplicity, innovation, and environmental responsibility can come together to create a lasting design classic.
