In the world of furniture design, simplicity and functionality often go hand in hand and the Kusibaso Stackable Stool by New Elegant takes this principle to the next level, blending traditional Southeast Asian influences with modern craftsmanship.
Inspired by the humble plastic stools commonly found in street food stalls, this innovative piece reimagines a familiar form using Laminated Veneer Lumber (LVL) and advanced wood-bending techniques.

Designed by Chou Wei Liang and Aditya Cipta Sugandha, the Kusibaso Stool is more than just a seating solution—it’s a testament to how everyday objects can be elevated into sustainable, stylish, and space-saving designs.
For its design elements, the Kusibaso Stackable Stool has been awarded with a 2024 Good Design Award by The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies.
Designed with simplicity and longevity in mind, the Kusibaso consists of only five parts: one frame and four legs that also form the seat.
This minimalist approach allows for straightforward assembly without special skills. When disassembled, the stool occupies less than half the space of its assembled form, leading to more efficient shipping and storage.
Additionally, individual parts can be easily replaced if damaged, further extending the stool’s lifespan.
Unlike typical LVL products, the innovative legs of Kusibaso are pressed in two directions.

This advanced method forms a 3D bending effect, creating a unique, continuous wood grain pattern that enhances the stool’s visual appeal while ensuring remarkable structural strength that can stand to be stepped on, demonstrating its durability and versatility.

This minimalist design makes assembly straightforward, allowing customers to easily put the stool together without special skills.
When disassembled, the stool requires less than half the space it would need if fully assembled, leading to more efficient shipping and storage, minimizing material usage and waste.
Additionally, this makes it easy to replace any damaged part over time, further extending its lifespan.
The result is a beautiful, functional, and durable stool, making it a versatile and elegant addition to any setting.
