Johannesburg, South Africa
The demand for residential apartments in Rosebank, South Africa has increased exponentially in recent years, leading Juicio Investments to commission MWC Architects to design The Median Apartments Rosebank, comprising 14 floors of space-optimizing apartments.

The Median Apartments Rosebank has recently been awarded a 2022 International Architecture Awards Honorable Mention by The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies.
While Rosebank has mostly been known as a commercial hub primarily made up of offices and retail space, the demand for residential apartments has grown considerably as more and more people are in search of accommodation closer to their place of work or public transport nodes.
The Median offers one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments as well as a selection of penthouses that range in size from 50m2 apartments to 160m2 penthouses.
The interior design theme is referred to by the architects as “Mondrian,” with white walls with pops of color.

The architects ensured that light would be brought into all of the spaces, a challenge for high-density apartment buildings.
A central atrium brings light to the rooms that lack an exterior facade and connects a series of circulation corridors.
The Median is located opposite The Zone @ Rosebank shopping complex, which has now completed the upgrade of the section directly opposite the apartment building site.
At street level, The Median showcases a number of shop fronts including a coffee shop that opens onto the pedestrian walkway on Cradock Avenue.
The village-like feel of the area, with its tree-lined streets and pedestrian walkways, further add to the building’s appeal.
Amenities range from shops and entertainment facilities to fitness and medical centres.
