America’s highest public award for New Architecture and urban planning by the most prominent architecture firms in the united states are honored at a gala reception/dinner at the Arts Club in Chicago on December 13.
The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design, together with The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies, has announced the winners of the 2023 American Architecture Awards®—the profession’s oldest and largest awards program that honors the nation’s best new buildings, landscape architecture, and urban planning by leading design firms practicing from across the 50 United States and also globally.
Founded in 2004, the mission of this public education program is to celebrate the highest design achievements of American design practitioners who are changing the face of modern American cities, improving the lives of millions, and bringing the best cutting-edge ideas to the forefront with the goal of highlighting the transformative power that architecture can and has achieved to impact on our society today as a true public art form.
“2023 was a banner year for awarded urban planning and cutting-edge corporate and commercial buildings,” states Christian Narkiewicz-Laine, architecture critic and Museum President/CEO, The Chicago Athenaeum.
“This year, there was a high environmental awareness for restoration, renovation, adaptive reuse, regeneration, and preservation on all kinds of buildings from commercial structures to private residences.”
“Sustainability is a key thread to all buildings and landscape projects selected for this year’s awards in an effort to create a more resilient built environment for generations to come.”
“These awards fulfill the Museum’s major objectives,” continues Narkiewicz-Laine,” as an opportunity to share meaningful, change-making innovations, as we can continue to make even better projects for our planet and our community.”
The 2023 Awards are also a testament to the incredible architects and designers who push boundaries, redefine possibilities, and create spaces that leave a lasting impression.”
