Product designer Fumie Shibata designs a new work chair for ITOKI with an advanced mechanism that increases comfort and moves away from conventional office furniture.
The project has been been awarded a 2020 Good Design Award by The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies.
Vertebra03, the new chair by ITOKI, is highly expandable and can be customized to suit the user and the individuality of the space.
The back and seat move naturally, and it gently fits the body of the person who sits in any posture.
The Vertebra series has been highly acclaimed for its innovative sitting comfort, which is backed by ergonomics.
Vertebra03 is characterized by its creator as the “human-first office chair.”
Smooth rocking is realized by the mechanism mounted on the elbow and backrest of the integrated frame.
Not only it can flexibly support forward-leaning, upright leaning, backward leaning, and stretch postures, but the three-dimensional seat slides to follow the movement of the back, allowing the seated person to be seated naturally and correctly without manual operation.
Also, when you move your weight forward, the seat surface tilts forward. Comfortably supports desk work without feeling pressure on the thighs.
When you lean on your back, two fulcrums, the arm, and the back work together to tilt up to a maximum of 25° automatically. It supports backward tilting around the elbow.
On top of that, the seat automatically slides forward up to 30 mm. The feature of the compact size is that it affects backward when tilting backward, making it easy to use even in tight spaces.
Also, by linking with the locking function of the back, it firmly supports the body and maintains a sense of stability. It naturally guides the sitting person to the correct sitting posture.
When you lean forward, the front edge of the seat leans naturally with a maximum of 10°. It reduces the feeling of pressure on the thighs when using a computer or writing.
By rotating the dial on the tip of the right arm, you can adjust the height of the seat to suit your physique. By providing the operation part at hand, it is possible to make smooth adjustments while sitting.
