Maranello (MO), Italy
Yes, if is in the most gifted hands of one of the world’s a most celebrated car designers.
American Prize for Design laureate Flavio Manzoni has designed his new mid-front-engined V8 2+ coupé featuring refined proportions and timeless design combined with unparalleled performance and handling.
The Ferrari Roma won a recent 2020 Good Design Award from The Chicago Athenaeum.
The retro-inspired, 612 HP dream-car introduces a new cabin layout with a high console that separates the driver and passenger.
Styled for aesthetics in favour of ground-hugging aerodynamic performance, Roma has a stylistic purity reflected by clean lines and surfaces perforated only where necessary.
The two-seat coupe’s swoopy, minimalist design pays homage to the vibrant life of that city in the 1950s and ’60s.
Not only is the Ferrari Roma an icon of Italian design, but it also represents the pinnacle of performance in this category, thanks to its turbo-charged V8 engine.
In this version, the engine reaches 620 cv at 7500 rpm and is coupled with the new 8-speed DCT gearbox that was introduced on the SF90 Stradale.
While the design has retro inspirations, particularly a visual similarity to the Daytona, Manzoni and Ferrari’s designers keep it modern with features like LED adaptive headlights with an illuminated strip running through them, and the doors have flush-mounted handles.
The rear wears expansive glass that would appear to bring lots of light into the cabin while also providing a good view outwards.
On the inside, the designers are using an unusual (for Ferrari) high center console that separates the passenger and driver. The driver looks at a large, digital instrument cluster, and there’s a portrait-layout infotainment screen next to it. The passenger even has a separate screen to watch in front of them.
With its distinctive flair and style, the car is a contemporary representation of the carefree, pleasurable way of life that characterised Rome in the 1950s and ‘60s.
The Ferrari Roma offers discerning drivers the finesse and refinement that brings the concept of “la Dolce Vita” right up to date.
