Balneário Camboriú, Santa Catarina, Brazil

The design process for Auris Residenze began with a deep exploration of the site, focusing on its unique environmental, natural, and climatic features. The project embraces the striking contrast between the nearby ocean and mountains and its dense urban environment, where nature is often overlooked. To address this, the design fosters a literal and symbolic reconnection with nature, creating a building that functions like a living organism integrated into its surroundings.
Auris Residenze received an 2025 International Architecture Honourable Mention from The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design.
A terracotta tone for pigmented concrete was selected to visually connect the building with the environment. The east-facing façade rotates like a sunflower to capture ocean views, while randomly arranged planters and brises give the building the appearance of a tree and provide solar protection. Breaking away from the typical base-plus-tower design, part of the base is set back so the tower’s edge directly connects with the ground, reinforcing the building’s harmony with the site’s topography.

Each apartment occupies an entire floor, offering exceptional living experiences with living rooms and master suites facing the ocean. Higher floors provide panoramic views, and a charcoal grill on the terrace integrates the regional lifestyle and sea breeze. Interior design combines Brazilian wood and leather craftsmanship with Italian elegance, creating sophisticated and inviting spaces. High ceilings, private areas separate from social spaces, and flexible floor plans accommodate personalized lifestyles. Auris Residenze invites residents to experience a modern life in harmony with nature.
The common areas cater to all ages, featuring an outdoor playground and indoor playroom for children, a garden promoting a healthy and sustainable lifestyle, and a pet area with training equipment. The design creates a harmonious connection between indoor and outdoor spaces, offering flexible and spacious environments where residents can feel at home.
The tower’s top provides leisure spaces with breathtaking views of Balneário Camboriú. A gym, wellness area, and pool create a relaxation oasis, integrating the sea view into the well-being experience. Amenities span three floors, including a double-height main party room with an outdoor area for celebrations, children’s indoor and outdoor playgrounds, a cozy fire square for colder days, a vegetable garden for residents, a dedicated pet space, and wellness facilities such as a gym, massage room, yoga and Pilates areas, an ofuro, and a dry sauna. The rooftop pool features panoramic views, a children’s pool, and a barbecue kiosk. Practical features like spacious parking and bike racks complete the environment, all reflecting a concept of “living well” that blends design with nature to inspire happiness and connection.

Sustainability is a core principle of Auris Residenze. From the start, collaboration with Petinelli Consulting led to sustainable practices such as optimized lighting, energy efficiency, and adherence to environmental standards. The project is pursuing LEED Platinum and WELL certifications, reflecting its commitment to responsible design and environmental stewardship while promoting sustainable living.
A bold architectural feature is the building’s twist, combining the rotating east façade with the need for resistance to strong winds and support for the rooftop pool. An exposed exoskeleton structure on the exterior stabilizes the building while preserving the design vision. This bold twist transforms Auris Residenze into an iconic landmark on Balneário Camboriú’s skyline, making it a symbol of innovative, responsible architecture blending nature, well-being, and urban living.
