European Prize for Architecture laureates GRAFT Gesellschaft von Architekten, have designed a new residential complex for Bauwerk Capital in Berlin located directly on the river Spree.
The dynamic-shaped Wave waterside living offers incomparable and unique accommodations in a metropolis such as Berlin.
Right outside the door lies the widest part of the Spree and the landmark Molecule Men sculpture.
The new residence is at the interface of three very different parts of the city: Friedrichshain – authentic & attractive. Kreuzberg – powerful & creative. Treptow – natural and family friendly.
Graft’s concept for the new buildings derives from the particular qualities of its waterside location along the River Spree in Berlin’s Osthafen.
Graft takes up the water theme in an elementary way shows in shape and facade.
It was imperative to find a visual language that meets the expectations that go along with luxury projects like Wave.
The design for the ensemble provides public access to the riverside zone along the Spree.
Wave not only incorporates the waterfront path, but also orients the building to the south overlooking the water with spacious courtyard gardens and yacht-like balconies.
The roof is designed for communal use with rooftop terraces and playgrounds for both public and private-communal activities.
The outer form of the ensemble is articulated so that it allows for maximum exposure out towards the water.
Undulating facades and curves characterize the Spree-side aspect of the construction.
On the opposite side, a cubic formal concept characterized by sculptural protrusions and rectilinear balconies set up a contrast, with the two aspects interlocked along the sides of the buildings.
Inside the 161 apartments, the interiors mirror the fluid design of the exterior architecture.
Accordingly, space is always treated as functional and intuitive. Communication zones and places for private retreat are equally manifest. The open spaces: balconies and terraces.
And at the top: the Sundecks with breathtaking panoramas over Berlin.
