Chula Vista, California, USA
Nestled along the scenic San Diego Bay, the Sun Outdoors San Diego Bay RV Resort, designed by Tucker Sadler Architects, is a luxurious 19-acre retreat located in Chula Vista, California that takes part of the larger revitalization of the Chula Vista Bayfront, which has transformed an industrial area into a vibrant waterfront destination
Sun Communities, Inc. hired Tucker Sadler Architects for the Master Planning, Architectural Design and Entitlement processing through the Port of San Diego for the development of Sun Outdoors San Diego Bay RV Resort located in Chula Vista, CA.
This was a first-time development for an RV Resort to incorporate coastal-styled cottages into a Master Plan which allow families of 4 to 6 to stay in one vacation cottage and interact with those who are at the RV Resort camping site which is uncommon along the California and San Diego coastline.

The Sun Outdoors San Diego Bay RV Resort has been awarded a 2024 American Architecture Award by The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies.
The strategic placement of the resort allows guests to wake up to the soothing sounds of the bay, creating a tranquil atmosphere that invites relaxation and serenity.
The well-maintained green spaces of expansive lawns and parks enhance the overall aesthetic appeal, creating an environment that seamlessly integrates with the natural beauty of the San Diego Bay.
The combination of stunning views with a plethora of recreational opportunities makes the Sun Outdoors San Diego Bay RV Resort a haven for those seeking a luxury yet affordable RV resort adventure.
Sun Outdoors San Diego Bay RV Resort includes RV sites, cottage vacation rentals, and premium amenities.
The resort’s 197 well-appointed standard, deluxe and premium RV sites are equipped with spacious patios, stone paver firepits, premium landscaping, and outdoor furniture.
The property provides back-in and pull-through RV sites ranging from 30-35 feet wide and provides each space with approximately 1,500-2,000 square feet of space.
The resort architecture incorporates 49 coastal cottage-style vacation rentals for a more luxury type of vacationing.
The coastal cottages have one- and two-bedroom options, some with bayfront views.
Each vacation rental is approximately 400 square feet, fully furnished with an upscale kitchen, outdoor furniture and stone firepits, designed to accommodate multiple style stays for families, couples and small groups.

The amenity buildings architecture design mimics the distant views shoreline with the action of the waves breaking in different directions along the shoreline with silhouettes that capture the views of the sunset, framed by the Promenade.
The resort amenities include a fully furnished clubhouse with commercial grade kitchen, entertainment equipment, pool with children’s splash pad and sun deck, spa and fitness facility, full-service concession bar & grill, various pedestrian pathways, bicycle and other equipment rentals, planned activities, children’s playground, and various passive open spaces for guest use.
The master plan design provides connectivity from the welcome center through the promenade to the RV Resorts amenities of the restaurants viewing decks, fire pits, gym, gaming area and meeting center.
The resort offers an event/meeting room, for the celebration of graduations, weddings, and was the retirement venue for the Mayor of Chula Vista.
Sun Outdoors San Diego Bay RV Resort is an important part of the revitalization of the Chula Vista Bayfront that was once an industrial landscape and now transformed into a premier waterfront destination.
The substantial improvements to the areas surrounding the resort including designing a bayfront promenade and trail lined with palm trees and unobstructed views of the bay that also connects to the Living Coast Discovery Center, a nonprofit zoo and aquarium located on the San Diego Bay National Wildlife Refuge whose mission is to inspire the community to connect with and care for the coastal environment.
The bike to bay pathway provides ample opportunity for resort guests and the general public to walk or ride their bike to learn more about the local area plant and wildlife at the Discovery Center, or take the connected pathway to downtown Chula Vista, surrounding cities and the San Diego Bayfront while enjoying the beauty of the outdoors.
