Wuxi, Jiangsu Province, China
Located in the beautiful Mashan Peninsula, Greenland Hong Kong, If Alan Experience Center by Shanghai PTArchitects is a curvilinear-shaped experience center that mimics in its shape the striking curves of a water drop and yacht design adopting arc design expressions to outline plenty of “islands” above and on the ground, which echoes Lake Tai and interprets the concept of “island living.”
The Greenland Hong Kong, If Alan Experience Center has recently been awarded a 2022 International Architecture Award by The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies.
The experience center is adjacent to Lake Tai, with a high forest coverage rate of 70% in the Mashan Peninsula, a rare piece of land that embraces clean soil, water, and air in East China.
People can quickly arrive in downtown Wuxi and Nianhua Bay through the southern expressway and the north highway around Lake Tai.

The project enjoys favorable geographical conditions, with picturesque lake views and natural sceneries around.
The design task was to maximize the unique setting to create a distinctive venue.
The project adjoins the Lake Tai tourist area and is built beside the water.
Curved design languages are not only utilized to outline specific forms but also to organize fluid spaces.
Based on the observation of daily life scenes, the design team set five distinct functional areas, including a display area, fitness area, beach area, food area, and leisure area.

These zones are separated in a soft manner indoors or outdoors, to unify spaces and lend vacation-like experiences in a smooth manner.
To create fish-scale-like exteriors, more than 15,000 anodized aluminum panels with different speculations are optimized and unified into four sizes, through parametric design techniques.
Additionally, those panels are pieced together with alternating color shades and combined with hidden lighting, thus adding rhythmic aesthetics to the multi-layered textured facades during both daytime and nighttime and forming a flying building form.
