Marseille, France
Oxo Architectes designed a futuristic residential building keeping the balance between nature and man is the basis of the project, the basis of building a sustainable city. Located in 44th Callelongue street, in the heart of the eighth district of Marseille, it is a natural oasis with a very rich vegetal heritage within an inhabited territory.
This impressive structure was short-listed for a 2021 International Architecture Award from The Chicago Athenaeum and The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies.
Oxigen will perfectly and sustainably fit into the urban silhouette of the district, respecting the existing biodiversity, while being resolutely turned towards the future: innovative solutions for the development of better living, individual and collective.
The architects propose a project that has included in its DNA a future mutability and a certain transformation in order to adapt to future practices and needs, inspired by the Corbusian reflection of the free plan.
This structure introduces an important relationship with nature near and far, a succession of buildings that merge into the landscape, pieces of life immersed in nature, fragments, reflections where nature and its reflection merge, an illusion, which protects everyone’s privacy. Nature and the well-being of users are at the heart of the project the architects have designed.
Living goes beyond owning an apartment, it is also about appropriating a place where you feel good. They want to create a link between the private and the common, create spaces of intimacy and places that encourage exchange and sharing in an exceptional living environment.
All the apartments are built on the same principles: flexibility, natural light, and outdoor spaces.
This is how the different typologies were conceived, favoring the relationship with nature and maximizing the openings in the facade. Each home is then strongly characterized by its position and its relationship with nature as well as with the horizon.
Like the Mediterranean ones who know how to take advantage of the shade and the freshness of the summer, the sun and the softness of the winter and the light in all seasons, the dwellings are thought in the location and the careful planning of the space according to the hours of the day and the seasons. Residents will be able to stroll easily between inside and outside.
