Michigan-based Newell Brands Design introduces Sharpie S Gel Pen — offering a smooth writing shot of boldness to the gel pen category, focusing on the ink itself with vivid, no-smear, no-bleed ink that glides effortlessly across the page.

The product design has been awarded a 2021 Good Design Award by The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies.
The team also focused on minimizing writing fatigue with a helical-patterned grip that provides added comfort, even during lengthy writing sessions.
S-Gel offers an elevated writing experience in a category not known for it. For users, this means ink that won’t smudge or smear.

Add to that an ergonomic helical-contoured rubber grip along with a single-piece clip designed to reduce clip-break.
The S-Gel marks Sharpie’s entrance into the gel pen category. Looking ahead, they aim for the same level of market dominance achieved with our permanent markers.
S-Gel is a pen worth holding onto. Along with happier users, this will result in fewer pens being discarded into landfills.

To distinguish the S-Gel within a crowded gel pen category, its designers took various design cues from the Sharpie marker.
This can be seen in its minimalist aesthetic and iconic logo on the center of the barrel.
Other details include a chrome clicker, a metallic band that indicates ink color, as well as the helical patterned grip for added comfort during writing sessions and easy to read tip size indicator graphics on the pen clip.
