Seeking to amplify innovation and agility, Neumann Monson Architects has created the Kreg Tool Headquarters, a combined office and manufacturing facility utilizing steel frame construction with laminated wood decks for the floor and roof assemblies, and placing a photovoltaic system on the warehouse roof.

The Kreg Tool Headquarters project has recently been awarded a 2023 American Architecture Award by The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies.
Located on a sustainably managed 25-acre campus, the facility is master-planned to accept two-fold growth.
A central marketplace acts as the corporation’s heart and connects the functions of the office head with the manufacturing hands.
Its location at the intersection of two major axes aids in wayfinding.
A central stair assembly becomes the anchor for impromptu gatherings and a stage for all-staff meetings.
Its materiality and craftsmanship are emblematic of the company’s mission.
A variety of formal and informal meeting spaces provide flexibility and choice throughout the facility.
Ample daylight and views, a state-of-the-art gym, an outdoor walking path, and an open-air courtyard enhance employee wellness.

The north façade’s full-height glazing maximizes daylight and views.
The floor is topped with acoustic matting and polished concrete. The roof is an insulated standing seam assembly.
The east and west facades are clad in a black metal rainscreen assembly with clerestory windows for additional daylight.
The manufacturing component’s perimeter is comprised of 14×40‚ precast concrete panels interrupted by a tall curtain wall for natural light.
Massing and materiality blur the line between office and manufacturing to promote the values of the employee-owned company.
The materiality creates a balanced and pragmatic response that speaks to the company’s mid-western ethos.
