With its detailed geometrical design, Compasso is a uniquely elegant chair for both residential and commercial spaces designed by Fiorenzo Dorigo of Dorigo Design for the Quadrifoglio Group.
Compasso has recently been awarded a 2022 Good Design Award by The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies.
The inspiration behind the dining chair is a wooden sculpture, a refined and sophisticated design, which aims to express a pure and rich meaning.
The name derives from the shape of the rear legs, resembling a compass.
A 25 degrees angle is formed by the legs on the back of the backrest, which makes it surprising, despite the linearity of its shapes.
Like the universal tool for tracing a perfect circle, this seat is a tool to design the living area, becoming its centerpiece.
Even if the design of the rear legs and the wide backrest is the fulcra of this project, much thought went into all of the details of this chair.
The structure of the front legs has a triangular section in the lower part and it is squared at the top.
The rear legs, with a triangular section, are made of a single piece of wood that changes along the height.
The one-piece rear legs have a variable triangular section that changes along its shape, and the curved panel of the backrest is made of variable thickness plywood.
The concept of variation is also found in the backrest where the curved panel has a differentiated thickness.
Compasso is available in various finishes: oak ash, walnut, umbra grey and white, while the seat can be plain wood and also be upholstered with a selection of fabrics and leathers, to furnish different types of spaces, private and public.
The project, launched in June 2022 as part of the Group’s Design Living collection, stands out for the peculiar structure of the rear legs.
The chair is perfect for furnishing the living area in residential contexts or spaces dedicated to hospitality and catering, in both contexts, becoming the room’s focal point.
