Hong Kong, China
Zaha Hadid Architects presents the West Kowloon Terminus development that features two pairs of interconnected office towers at the northern and southern ends, an ambitious and thoughtfully conceived project that integrates workspaces with communal areas, creating a dynamic and multifunctional environment.
The inclusion of approximately 100,000 square feet (9,290 square meters) of garden terraces and plazas introduces significant green space into the urban environment.
These areas provide lush, open spaces for relaxation, social interaction, and outdoor activities, contributing to the well-being of occupants and visitors.
“At the heart of West Kowloon in Hong Kong, this landmark development is located above the existing West Kowloon Station high-speed rail terminus which has remained in operation throughout construction,” states Zaha Hadid Architects.
“Also adjacent to the Kowloon and Austin stations of Hong Kong’s MTR metro network, this new business district integrates with a key section of the 1.5 km landscaped pedestrian West Kowloon Parkway, giving the communities within Kowloon direct access to the harbourside and parks of the West Kowloon Cultural District.”
The design of the plaza, which connects with the West Kowloon Parkway, is enhanced by the inclusion of numerous sheltered outdoor gathering spaces.
These areas are thoughtfully designed to provide opportunities for relaxation, recreation, and public events, creating a vibrant and inviting urban space.
The development is thoughtfully crafted to complement the unique geometry of West Kowloon Terminus while maximizing outdoor public spaces and enhancing natural ventilation throughout the district.
Furthermore, the design ensures privacy and unobstructed views by preventing each tower from being overlooked by its neighboring buildings.
The design of the towers, with their expansive, column-free floorplates, generous floor-to-ceiling heights, and accessible outdoor terraces, exemplifies a modern, people-centric approach to workspace design.
This thoughtful configuration not only maximizes flexibility and adaptability but also prioritizes the wellbeing and satisfaction of occupants.
By integrating these features, the towers provide a dynamic, inspiring, and sustainable work environment that meets the demands of contemporary businesses and their employees.
